This small fragment of ancient woodland has a wide range of trees, including small-leaved lime, a tree characteristic of very old woodlands that used to be widespread but is now very unusual. It lies in a stream valley and is very wet, which makes for a variety of woodland flowers.

Visiting

Between the Roach Vale, Woodlands and Salary Close estates in the north-east of Colchester.

Accessible at all times.

The main footpath from Debden Road to Barbell Road has a surface fit for wheelchairs.
